UTAS’ Masterplan for Sandy Bay 2021 – don’t expect much change

On 6 December 2021, UTAS submitted a request to the Hobart City Council for a Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) for rezoning of the Sandy Bay campus site. UTAS’ PSA request incorporated its Sandy Bay Masterplan Report (Masterplan), which set out UTAS’ plans for the Sandy Bay campus site in detail.

UTAS subsequently withdrew its PSA request to, in its words, “enable further engagement through council processes”.

I expect the PSA request and Masterplan to be re-submitted in the near future. The Shake Up Panel’s Report suggests by December 2023, but others will know the likely timelines and process from now better than me.

As I do not believe wholesale changes are likely to the next version of UTAS’ PSA request and Masterplan, and as UTAS provided the PSA request and Masterplan of 6 December 2021 in a very unhelpful form on its website when it released them on 11 July 2023, I am providing an index to those documents and their appendices with click links in the table below.

Using the table below, I suggest people familiarise themselves with the sections of UTAS’ 2021 PSA request and Masterplan that interest them, so that they are as well placed as possible to contribute when the documents re-emerge for public comment. Public consultation timelines are sometimes a bit short for the matters to be considered, and these are very long documents.
